Day 7: Friday, August 2
and Windmill Point
... we headed for land, and, in particular, Windmill Point Marina at the very tip of the Northern point of the Rappahannock. Windmill Point Marina is, or, at least, was hard to get into due to rapid shoaling.
We heard that the marina had changed hands and that at one point the boats were trapped inside for months because of the shoaling. Last year (2006) we heard that it was open again, but recently (2007) were told that it was closed and put up for sale. All for a shame since it was by far one of the fanciest marinas we ever visited and at the time very expensive (I think $1.50/foot and $5 for electricity in 1991).
Not only did the Marina have a beautiful swimming pool (maybe two), and a nice restaurant, but was blessed with great surroundings. We planned leave the next day. I can't speak for Kay here, but I think we were (certainly, I was) worried about "getting out" that we were impelled to get it "over with." This despite questionable weather forcast for our planned trip across the Bay.
We never returned there.
