Day 13: Beaufort (6) to Belhaven (8)

As we were leaving Beaufort, we passed the Aldridges on their boat "Buena Vista" tied up at the face dock. We pulled in next to them. (I knew Bill from the American Association of Physics Teachers.) We chatted for an hour and agreed to meet in Belhaven. Theirs was a motor boat, ours a sailboat, so 70 miles for them was not a problem, for us a task.

"We made the 70 miles, including 20+ miles across a wild & Woolly Neuse and, of course it rained. And just as we were heading into Belhaven a series of thunder and lightning storms hit, and kept us from docking and doing doughnuts for over an hour."

Cruising is always fun.

"We were finally able to dock and go to dinner with the Aldridges at the River Forest Manor. No sooner then to bed when the storms came again. Axson Smith (owner of RFM) came by and helped us retie the boat during the storms. What service and what a great place to get a slip."

Day 14: Belhaven to Alligator River Marina (9)

"Left in the rain and it stayed raining all day. Lots of bad storms North of us, but the worst of them passed us. Otherwise, rainy and occasionaly very windy."

The Alligator Marina is just North of the Alligator River Bridge. It is nice in most ways, but a challenge for sailboats do to ocassional shoaling. It does have very high pilings which can be a challenge when "de-slipping", frequently leading to interesting annimated discussions on the part of those departing. On the positive side, it is relatively inexpensive, has a small store/grill associated with it, and, at least, when we have been there they delivered a morning paper to your boat. We liked it.

Day 15: Alligator River Marina to Edenton (1)

Kay as nothing to say here so it must have been uneventful.
Now if I can just remember:

OK, I won't forget that!
