TEXT:
Giancoli. PHYSICS (5th ed.)
REQUIREMENTS:
Missed tests will be excused and the final will take their place. Attendance
and participation will be rewarded.
EVALUATION:
The final grade will be based on the highest of two options:
A) Each test 20% and the final 40%
B) Each test 15%, quantitative homework 25% <http://www.image-ination.com/1250> ,qaulitative homework http://www.image-ination.com/1250q 5%, and the final 25%
Homework must be completed on the WEB before the day of the test that covers the relevant chapters. Go to the first URL (above) the grades are in the gradebook on the desk (your password, unless you
choose otherwise, is your SS#), and the syllabus and other help is behind the picture of the schoolhouse.
HOMEWORK INFO:
- The homework is accessible at
Quantitative: http://www.image-ination.com/1250>, Qualitative: http://www.image-ination.com/1250q
- There are typically 8-10 problems per assignment (usually 10)
- To receive credit for an assignment you must score >59.
- You must complete 12 assignments to receive full credit for the
homework.
- You may work each assignment as often as you want, the problems won't
change but the numbers in the quantitative will be different each time. The grade you receive for course credit will always be the highest score you achieved on any assignment.
- Each time you submit an assignment you will be given immediately the
correct answers and your score.
- Study the questions you missed until you find the error and can
duplicate the correct answers before trying the assignment again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- You must enter your name, password (SS#-without spaces or hyphens)
and section number before the assignment will be graded.
- The quantitative homework will only (and automatically) be submitted when you
score >59. You need to submit the qualitative homework yourself when you achieve a grade >59.
- Any physical constants and conversion factors you need for the quantitative homework can be found from the
links at the top of the page.
- Make sure to enter your correct section number. Even if you get 100
you will not receive credit if you use the wrong section number.
- You can access the homework from home using any of the ISPs
(internet Service Providers) available in Greenville or from campus
using any of the computer labs listed at
http://www.ecu.edu/acms/lab/. AOL is not recommended!
To receive Class information you MUST subscribe to our ListServe at http://www.image-ination.com/mlist.html. You will receive announcements about the class to that list and can ask general questions. DO NOT POST PERSONAL QUESTIONS TO THE LIST BECAUSE EVERYONE IN THE CLASS WILL SEE WHAT YOU WRITE! Along the same lines do not use my guestbook to post personal questions as everyone in the world may see them. I do have a chat room http://carladler.org/cgi-bin/chatform.acgi where you can talk to me at almost anytime (just send email and if I am around I will go there ).
You can use your picture to represent you when you talk (or you can use the available emoticons). To use your picture, you have several options:
- Email your picture to me and I will put it on the chat page sothat you can just click on it.
- Give me a disk with your picture and I will do the same.
- Put your picture on a server and enter the address in the image field as
http://your.server.com/yourfolder/picture.gif (or picture.jpg)
However to receive maximum credit for participation you should post your questions at The Physics Web Board (http://carladler.org/wwwboard/). I automatically monitor this page every 10 minutes when I am on line.
The homework and other features should work with the latest versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, I only directly support Netscape Navigator 4.x http://help.netscape.com/products/client/communicator/index.html. It is free please use it.
NOTE: The onLine Gradebook is normally only updated on Tuesday and Thursday morning and after tests.
The Final Exam is 8:00-10:00 Tuesday, December 14
